First, it is important to note that United Airlines will not be liable for damage, loss, or destruction of any customer’s baggage if it is caused by an inherent defect in the baggage, its poor quality, the wear and tear are ordinary, or the baggage being over-packed in the first place.

The passenger should make sure that the bag tags remain attached to the luggage if they want to be able to report their damaged baggage.
