Things to know before you travel with your pet on Turkish Airlines Flight

Turkish Airlines has been in operations for nearly 90 years now. As the name implies, it is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey. It has the distinction of serving the most number of destinations from one single airport. It also flies to the highest number of countries when compared to the other airlines in the world. In total, the airline flies to 331 destinations and has a fleet size of 372. Turkish Airline is also widely appreciated for its value for money and overall onboard experience. 

If you are planning on traveling with your pet with Turkish Airlines, there are a few things you need to know in advance. 

Here are a few of the guidelines one must abide by in order to successfully travel with their pets:

The combined weight of the animal and the crate should not exceed 8 kg. 

The maximum dimensions allowed for the crate are 23 cm (height) x 30 cm (width) x 40 cm (length)

Pregnant animals are not allowed to travel. Also, puppies and kittens under the age of 10 weeks are not permitted. 

Cats and birds are not permitted on the same plane. 

You can only carry dry pet food in your carry-on baggage

Pets who exceed the weight limits to travel in the cabin may qualify for transport in the hold instead. 

The below-listed breeds are not allowed for pet travel:

American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Doberman, pincher Doberman, and Rottweiler. 

The pilot of the flight has the final say regarding the travel eligibility of the pet. The ventilation conditions should be sufficient otherwise the animal will not be allowed to travel in the hold.
