Spirit Airlines Baggage Information

It is well known that Spirit Airlines is an ultra-low-cost airline and in order to keep their ticket prices as low as they can be Spirit charges their customers for both carry-on and checked baggage. Although, the airline does allow a personal item (such as a purse or a backpack) to be carried without any charges as it is included in the ticket purchase.

It is important to note that if your Personal Item exceeds the maximum dimensions limit of 18 x 14 x 8 inches (45 x 35 x 20 cm) then it will be treated as standard carry-on baggage and charges will be applicable.

Talking about Carry-On Baggage, it should not exceed the maximum dimensions limit of 56 x 46 x 25 in centimeters. The charges for adding your carry-on bag during the flight booking will be $35 to $40. If you add your carry-on bag during the online check-in (web check-in) process then you will have to pay $45-$50. If for some reason you can’t add your carry-on baggage during booking or check-in and add it at the airport itself then you will be paying in the range of $50-$75 depending on factors such as the destination and baggage’s dimensions and weight.

According to Spirit Airlines Baggage Policy for your Checked Baggage, the maximum combined dimensions allowed and weight limits are 203cm/80in and 45kg/99lbs respectively. Additional oversize and overweight charges will be applicable for any baggage that goes beyond these limits. No baggage which exceeds the limit of 100lbs will be transported by Spirit Airlines.

Each passenger is allowed to have up to five checked bags. Charges for each are provided below.

First Checked Baggage:
During booking — $37
During Check-In — $47
At the airport — $50-$65

Second Checked Baggage:
During booking — $45
During Check-In — $55
At the airport — $60

Third-Fifth Checked Baggage:
During booking — $85
During Check-In — $95
At the airport — $100
