One of the major airlines of the United States and the world’s largest low-cost carrier, Southwest Airlines has been in operation for slightly over 50 years now. The airline operates flights without stoppage to over 100 destinations in around 10 countries. According to the Southwest Airlines unaccompanied minor travel policy, all children passengers between the ages of 5 to 11 who will be traveling without the company of a passenger age 12 or older will have to fly as Unaccompanied Minors.

The flights which have the possibility of being diverted or getting canceled due to any sort of operational disruptions do not transport any unaccompanied minors.

The airline charges $50 each way ($100 for a round trip) in addition to the price of the ticket per child.

The unaccompanied minor charges are refundable in case you wish to cancel the booking or the minor won’t be traveling. You can also get a refund if the minor will be joined by an accompanying passenger 12 or older in age.

It is important to note that the flight crew won’t be responsible for monitoring an unaccompanied minor throughout the journey. Only children who can travel alone without much adult supervision required should travel as an unaccompanied minors with Southwest Airlines.

The purchaser of the ticket represents that they are either the minor’s parents or guardian or have the authority to act on behalf of a parent or guardian.
There is no unaccompanied minor service for any flights traveling to/from international destinations.

At the time of check-in or receiving the unaccompanied minor, a parent or a guardian should be present carrying a valid photo ID issued by the government.

Also, you will be requiring proof of age (in the form of any valid identification such as the birth certificate) upon check-in at the ticket counter.

Only nonstop or same-plane service will allow the travel of an unaccompanied minor passenger.
