Southwest Airlines Flight Refund Policy

Changes in travel plans are always possible in the fast-paced lifestyle that an average person lives in modern times. If you have booked a flight with Southwest and are looking to cancel it, it is worth your time to get to know about their refund policy. Southwest Airlines is known for its customer-friendly policies.

The airline offers its passengers three different fare types. These fare types are Business Select, Anytime, and Wanna Get Away respectively. Business Select and Anytime are refundable fares, while Wanna Get Away is a non-refundable fare type.

According to the Southwest Refund Policy, if a passenger cancels their refundable ticket then they have the options to either receive the refund by a method of payment or they can receive travel funds in place of a refund which can be used to book a flight with the airline in the future.

In case of non-refundable ticket cancellation, the passenger doesn’t have the luxury to receive a refund but they can only receive travel funds to be used for a future booking.

It is important to note that the passengers looking for a refund on their refundable ticket should cancel their flight at least 10 minutes prior to the flight’s scheduled departure. If the passenger fails to do so then they won’t receive a refund and the value of the ticket will be automatically converted into travel funds.

If you have a Wanna Get Away fare type and fail to make the cancellation 10 minutes prior then the funds will be forfeited.

The Southwest Refund Policy states that the method of payment for refunds will be the same as the method by which the original booking was made. Below we list the various method-of-payment:

Cash

Credit Card

Travel Fund

Points (received in the Rapid Rewards account by which the booking was made)

Southwest gift card or Southwest LUV Voucher

In the case of EarlyBird Check-In, the passenger will receive no refund on the cancellation of their booking. By cancellation, you will be forfeiting your EarlyBird Check-In Purchase. You will be refunded only if Southwest Airlines cancels its flight by itself.
